Egypt day tours for solo travelers: how a private tour works when you go alone

A private day tour for one: how to ask the price, pickup, evenings and what travel sources advise.

In short
  • Prices are per person for two or more, so a solo traveler asks for the price for one person with the date.
  • The car and guide are private on every tour; a boat, balloon or show is shared on some.
  • Every tour starts and ends at your hotel, so there is no street taxi to find on the tour day.
  • Travel sources commonly advise modest dress, care with street taxis and no walking alone at night (as of October 2026).
  • Ask for tomorrow or even today: there is no cut-off time, and the reply comes within an hour at most.

A solo traveler can book an Egypt day tour, and on our tours the car and the guide are private, so a day for one person runs the same way as a day for two. Prices on this site are per person for two or more people, so a solo traveler asks for the price for one person when sending the request. Every tour starts and ends at your hotel.

How a private tour works when you are the only guest

On every tour the car and the guide are private to your group. On most tours the whole day is private, just your group. On some, the activity itself, such as a boat, a balloon flight, a show or a dinner cruise, is shared with other guests while the transfers and the guide stay private. So a solo traveler has the vehicle and the guide alone, and shares only what the tour page says is shared. Private day tours in Egypt explains the difference in full.

A stop can be skipped or the order changed where the tour allows: ask before booking and you are told what is possible.

Asking for the price for one

Prices are per person for two or more people, so say "one person" in your request, with the date. Send it from the form on the tour page, the contact page, WhatsApp or phone. The reply gives the price for that date and the plan for the day, and no payment is taken with the request. You confirm with a 25% deposit; free cancellation runs up to 24 hours before the tour starts. A request for tomorrow, or even the same day, is fine, and the reply comes within an hour at most. How to book an Egypt day tour walks through the steps.

Pickup, and getting back

Every tour starts and ends at your hotel, except the Cairo layover tour, which starts and ends at Cairo airport. Some tours in Luxor and Aswan also collect guests from Nile cruise boats. The exact pickup time is confirmed when you book, because traffic and the hotel's location change it. For a solo traveler this means the tour itself needs no street taxi: the car comes to you and takes you back.

What travel sources commonly advise solo travelers

This is customary advice from published travel sources as of October 2026, not our policy. Each row appears in at least two of them, and the amount of caution varies by source.

TopicCommonly advisedWhere it appears
DressCover roughly from the upper arms to the knees in cities and villages; swimwear is fine on Nile cruise boats and at the Sharm El Sheikh and Red Sea resorts; carry a light scarf for mosques.UK FCDO, G Adventures, Lonely Planet, World Nomads
Sellers at the sitesKeep walking and let the questions pass; the pressure is described as tiring but rarely malicious.G Adventures, World Nomads (walk away from anyone who persists)
If someone persistsRaise your voice, say a firm "Stop", walk away and stay in public areas.World Nomads, G Adventures (walk on)
Street taxisSources differ in emphasis: the FCDO suggests avoiding a taxi alone if possible and sharing the driver's details and live location with a friend; others point to metered white taxis or Uber, and advise against the front seat when alone.UK FCDO, Lonely Planet, G Adventures, World Nomads
NightsTake extra care at night; avoid walking alone at night or going to bars alone.UK FCDO, World Nomads

For what to pack, see what to wear and bring on an Egypt day tour.

Evenings when you travel alone

The evening tours start and end at your hotel, so a show or a dinner does not mean finding your own way back after dark. The Karnak sound and light show in Luxor is about 75 minutes. The Philae show in Aswan goes by boat to the temple and by boat back. The Giza show comes with dinner at a local restaurant, and the Cairo Nile dinner cruise has a shared boat with an open buffet, belly dancing, a Tanoura show and live music. Al-Azhar Park at sunset is a private evening of about 3 hours. All of them are compared in after dark in Egypt.
