- UK travel advice: dress modestly, especially in rural areas, mosques and souqs; resort norms do not apply elsewhere.
- Luxor averages 5.9°C (42.6°F) on January nights and 41.4°C (106.5°F) on July days.
- Bottled water is in almost every tour's Included list; snorkeling gear comes with the sea days.
- Monument tickets are priced in Egyptian pounds, and tips are not included on 71 tours.
- A student ticket needs a valid student ID and an age of 24 or under.
Wear modest, loose clothes and comfortable shoes, carry sun cover, and add a warm layer for winter mornings: in Luxor the average January low is 5.9°C (42.6°F) and the average July high 41.4°C (106.5°F). Bring Egyptian pounds for tips and optional extras. Bottled water is in the Included list of almost every tour, and the sea days include snorkeling gear.
Dress for the stop, not the resort
UK travel advice (FCDO, checked August 2026) asks visitors to dress modestly, especially in rural areas, mosques and souqs (traditional markets), and notes that resort norms do not apply elsewhere and that standards matter more during Ramadan. Clothes that suit a Red Sea beach day are not the norm for a Cairo or Luxor day trip from the resort. The stops on our tours where the advice applies most:
| Kind of stop | Where it comes up on our tours |
|---|---|
| Mosque | The Citadel and the Mosque of Mohamed Ali, on the Egyptian Museum, Citadel and Coptic Cairo tour, the Citadel half day and Coptic and Islamic Cairo in a day, which adds the Mosque-Madrasa of Sultan Hassan; the Al-Azhar Mosque on Islamic Cairo and Al-Muizz Street; the Al Sahaba Mosque on Old Sharm by evening |
| Souq or bazaar | Khan El Khalili on the Cairo days by plane from Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm El Sheikh, the Islamic Cairo half day, Coptic and Islamic Cairo in a day and the Khan El Khalili walk; an optional shopping stop at Khan El Khalili or near the pyramids on four Cairo tours; Dahab's local markets on the Mount Sinai tour from Sharm El Sheikh; the Old Market in Sharm El Sheikh |
| Villages | The Nubian village of Gharb Soheil, by boat from Aswan; a Bedouin village with tea on the quad safaris from Marsa Alam and Sharm El Sheikh; Tunis Village, known for its pottery, on the Fayoum day trip from Cairo |

A warm layer matters most on the tours that start in the dark: the Luxor hot-air balloon ride picks you up before sunrise, and the Mount Sinai tours from Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab climb at night to reach the top for sunrise. Our checked facts carry no temperatures for the mountain, so ask about the summit when you book; the climb is covered in Mount Sinai at night. For the hot months, see summer heat on Egypt day tours.
