In short
  • Children under 6 enter Egyptian monuments and museums free, per the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
  • Student tickets need a valid student ID, and the student must be 24 or younger.
  • At Giza, Saqqara, Memphis, the Egyptian Museum and the Citadel, the foreign student rate is half the adult rate.
  • Our Cairo tours are private, just your group, except three evening shows, where the transfers and the guide are private; half days run about 3 to 5 hours.
  • No tour's data states an age limit or that it suits children: ask before you book.

Our tours based in Cairo include hotel pickup and return (the layover tour starts and ends at Cairo airport), an air-conditioned vehicle and bottled water; all but three evening shows are private, just your group. No tour's data states an age limit or says a tour suits children, so each tour's suitability is confirmed when you ask. At Ministry sites, children under 6 enter free, and students up to 24 with a valid ID pay the student rate.

Tickets for children and students

Two Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities rules matter for families: children under 6 enter Egyptian monuments and museums free, and a student ticket needs a valid student ID, with the student aged 24 or younger. The table shows foreign visitors' prices in Egyptian pounds (EGP) at some of the sites our Cairo tours visit, as of August 2026.

The Grand Egyptian Museum publishes no fixed price list; its prices vary by the experience you choose, your nationality and your age category. The Ministry lists we use show only an adult and a student rate, with no separate fare for children aged 6 and over, so ask how an older child is counted. Our tours include entrance fees to the sites they name, and our prices are on request: give us your children's ages when you ask, and bring any student ID on the day.

Shorter outings and evenings

The felucca ride is about two hours of sailing on the Nile in a traditional sailboat, in the morning or at sunset; the two hours don't include the drives. The quad bike ride is about two hours of riding in the desert with the pyramids in view, after a safety briefing from a Bedouin desert guide and followed by a short break at the quad base. Its data give no minimum age and don't say whether a child can ride or sit as a passenger. The Maxim dinner cruise has an open buffet with Egyptian and international dishes, belly dancing, a Tanoura show (a whirling folk dance) and live music; drinks are not mentioned in its included or excluded lists. At the cooking class you cook Egyptian home dishes with a local cook, then sit down to eat what you made; the street food tour tastes koshary, falafel (taameya) and ful, then sweets and tea. More river outings are on the Nile page.

Heat

Cairo's average daily high is 34.5-34.8°C in June, July and August, against 19.0-20.4°C from December to February. The guide to the best time of day at Giza has every month and the plateau's opening hours.

What to ask before you book

  • Suitability: no tour's data states an age limit or that it suits children, so ask about each tour you are considering.
  • Tickets: how your children are counted, given free entry under 6 and student tickets up to 24.
  • Child seats: the tours' data don't mention them.
  • Food: lunch on the full-day tours that include it is at a local restaurant; ask about anything your children can't eat.
  • Pickup time: no tour lists one. The hotel pickup guide gives drive times from three Cairo hotel areas.
