The pyramids of Giza
In short
  • Egypt Day Tours sells only day tours in Egypt: 73 day tours, and no multi-day packages, hotel bookings or Nile cruises.
  • The tours start from 8 bases; Cairo & Giza has 27 tours, Luxor and Aswan 10 tours each, and the Red Sea resorts 21 tours together.
  • Every tour starts and ends at your hotel (the layover tour at Cairo airport); 7 tours in Luxor and Aswan also collect guests from Nile cruise boats.
  • Your car and guide are private on every tour; on 17 tours the activity itself, such as a boat or a show, is shared with other guests.
  • 7 tours travel by plane, and domestic flights are never part of a tour price.

A day tour in Egypt is a guided outing that starts and ends at your hotel: a private car and a guide take you to one or more planned stops and bring you back. Egypt Day Tours (egyptdaytours.net) is a site dedicated to day tours in Egypt, and that is all it sells: 73 day tours from 8 bases, with no multi-day packages, hotel bookings or Nile cruises.

What a day tour includes

Each tour page shows the whole day stop by stop, in order, hotel to hotel: a map, the drive distance and drive time to each stop (map routing, without traffic), photos of each stop, approximate clock times, and what is included and not included. Hotel pickup and return, and a car and guide for your group only, come with every tour. The rest depends on the tour:

WhatTours that include it
Bottled water72 tours
Entrance fees to the sites in the program53 tours
An English-speaking Egyptologist guide, that is, a guide trained in ancient Egyptian history44 tours; the others list an English-speaking guide or tour leader
Lunch30 tours: 24 at a local restaurant or a cooking class, 6 on board a boat; optional and not included on 7 tours
TipsListed as not included on 71 tours

Some tickets are extras: going inside the Great Pyramid is an optional extra on 12 tours, and the Tutankhamun tomb ticket in the Valley of the Kings on 7 tours. The guide to what is included in an Egypt day tour goes through the lists in full.

Kinds of day tours

Besides sightseeing days at temples, tombs and museums, the site groups its tours by experience:

Kind of dayAn example from our tours
Sightseeing with a guideLuxor East Bank: Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple, with lunch at a local restaurant
Nile boat tripsNubian village by boat, from Aswan: a motorboat on the Nile to the village of Gharb Soheil and a Nubian home
Sea and snorkelingTiran Island snorkeling, from Sharm El Sheikh: the Blue Lagoon, reef stops and an open buffet lunch on board
Desert daysSunset quad safari, from Marsa Alam: a quad ride, a Bedouin village with tea, a camel ride at sunset and a barbecue dinner
Evenings and showsPyramids sound and light show with dinner: the show on the Giza Plateau, then dinner at a local restaurant
By planeCairo in a day by plane, from Hurghada: the Giza pyramids, the Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum and Khan El Khalili; the flights are not part of the tour price

Where the tours start

BaseDay tours from it
Cairo & Giza27 tours
Luxor10 tours
Aswan10 tours
Alexandria5 tours
Sharm El Sheikh7 tours
Hurghada6 tours
Marsa Alam5 tours
Dahab3 tours

Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Dahab are grouped as the Red Sea resorts, with 21 tours between them. In Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Alexandria you can also book a guide only, in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French or Italian, for the sites and hours you choose, with a car on request: see a guide only in Cairo.

How long a day tour lasts

A day tour is not always a full day. Each tour states its length:

Length, as the tour states itExample
Full dayPyramids, Memphis and Saqqara, from Cairo
Morning, back after lunchLuxor East Bank
EveningKarnak sound and light show, in Luxor
SunriseHot-air balloon ride over Luxor
Night climb and sunriseMount Sinai and St Catherine's Monastery, from Sharm El Sheikh
Full day, by planeCairo in a day by plane, from Sharm El Sheikh

Tour pages show approximate clock times. The pickup time is confirmed when you book, because traffic and your hotel's location change it.

What a day tour is not

A day tour does not move you between cities: every tour ends back at the hotel where it started, except the Cairo layover tour, which starts and ends at Cairo airport between two flights. The site sells no multi-day packages, hotel stays or Nile cruises, so those are arranged separately; day tours or a package tour compares the two ways of seeing Egypt.
