In short
  • Every tour starts and ends at your hotel (the layover tour at Cairo airport); 7 tours in Luxor and Aswan also collect guests from Nile cruise boats.
  • Drive figures come from map routing without traffic: on the Luxor West Bank tour, the first drive is 14.9 km, about 18 min.
  • Clock times on tour pages are approximate; the pickup time is confirmed when you book.
  • A stop can be skipped or the order changed where the tour allows, if you ask before booking.
  • 5 tours have a shopping stop you can skip; going inside the Great Pyramid is an optional extra on 12 tours.

Each tour on Egypt Day Tours, a site dedicated to day tours in Egypt, is planned as one route that starts and ends at your hotel. The tour page lists every stop in order, the drive distance and time to each one from map routing without traffic, and what is included and not included. Clock times on the page are approximate; the pickup time is confirmed when you book.

The route: every stop in order

A tour page shows the whole day hotel to hotel, with a map, photos of each stop and the drive to each stop. Here is the Luxor West Bank, full day tour as its page lays it out:

Stop, in orderDrive to it, without traffic
Hotel pickup in LuxorStart
Colossi of Memnon14.9 km from your hotel, about 18 min
Temple of Hatshepsut4.3 km from the Colossi of Memnon, about 8 min
Valley of the Kings6.3 km from Hatshepsut Temple, about 16 min
Lunch at a local restaurantNot given
Medinet Habu8.3 km from the Valley of the Kings, about 18 min
Deir el-Medina workers' village1.9 km from Medinet Habu, about 5 min
Return to your hotel15.4 km from Deir el-Medina, about 19 min

The drive figures are map routing without traffic, so read them as the shortest a drive can take, not a forecast. The restaurant is not named, so the drive to Medinet Habu is measured from the Valley of the Kings.

What is included, and what is not

Next to the route, each page lists what the price covers. On the same West Bank tour:

IncludedNot included
Pickup and drop-off from any hotel or location in LuxorTickets to special tombs in the Valley of the Kings, such as Tutankhamun, Seti I or Ramses VI
Private transfers in a modern air-conditioned vehicleCamera tickets inside the Valley of the Kings tombs

Entrance fees to the sites in the program, bottled water and lunch at a local restaurantTips

Times: approximate on the page, confirmed at booking

Tour pages show approximate clock times. The pickup time is confirmed when you book, because traffic and your hotel's location change it. In Cairo the hotel area makes a large difference: on the Pyramids, Memphis and Saqqara tour, the Giza pyramids are 1.8 km from a hotel in Giza near the pyramids and 45.3 km from New Cairo, without traffic. How hotel pickup works for Cairo day tours sets out those figures by hotel area.

Some days are set by the light rather than the clock: the hot-air balloon ride over Luxor is a sunrise flight, the Mount Sinai tours climb at night for sunrise, and the sound and light shows run in the evening.

Your hotel, or your Nile cruise boat

Every tour starts and ends at your hotel, except the Cairo layover tour, which meets you at Cairo airport and takes you back there for your next flight. 7 tours in Luxor and Aswan also collect guests from Nile cruise boats: in Luxor, the Luxor East Bank tour, the hot-air balloon ride over Luxor, Karnak Temple with a guide and Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut; in Aswan, the Nubian village trip by boat, Philae Temple by boat and the felucca sail.

What you can change, and what is optional

A stop can be skipped or the order changed where the tour allows: you ask before booking and are told what is possible. Some parts are optional from the start. 5 tours have a shopping stop that can be skipped; on the Pyramids, Memphis and Saqqara tour, the stop at Khan El Khalili or near the pyramids is marked as one to skip if you would rather go straight back to your hotel. Going inside the Great Pyramid is an optional extra on 12 tours, and the Tutankhamun tomb ticket in the Valley of the Kings on 7 tours. The date itself can be changed free of charge up to 24 hours before, subject to availability.

Meals and water

Lunch is part of the plan on 30 tours: 24 at a local restaurant or a cooking class and 6 on board a boat. On 7 tours lunch is optional and not included. Bottled water is included on 72 tours.

When the plan suits you, the next step is a request with your date and group size; how to book an Egypt day tour walks through it.
